At first glance, this looks to be a nice example of an Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) Dress Parade Dirk, complete with its brass mounted leather scabbard. It has the correct cherry blossom around the cross pin, as we expected to see. However closer inspection showed that it was not quite what it seemed, especially with metal paint flaking off a plastic cross guard. Later war examples did have plastic grips, but
