Carboniferous Lycopod Tree Root - 7.293" adventure 13 March 2018In the ancient past of the Carboniferous Period, plants reached staggering heights. The simple clubmosses of today once reached to the skies, growing to the size of modern trees. What is left from this reign of the plants can be found in coal rich Carboniferous deposits. This specimen is a section of a fossilized Lycopod Tree Root, measuring 7. 293". These roots once supported a massive Lycopodiopsida plant 300 million years ago.
