Constructed of silver, on loop for suspension from its period original bowtie style ribbon with horizontal pinback, the obverse with a central inscription of VERDIENST UM DEN STAAT (SERVICE TO THE STATE), inside a laurel leaf wreath, the reverse with a monogram of Kaiser Friedrich Wilhelm III, unmarked, measuring 32. 29 mm in diameter, weighing 26. 7 grams, in very fine condition.
