The Dress Jacket ("Affenjacke") was made of dark blue wool and had eight brass (or white metal) buttons down either side, although it was actually loosely held by a small chain between two additional buttons. This example is a private purchase Chief Petty Officers, meaning the regulations were not as solid, so there are 9 buttons on each side. The cuffs likewise had eight buttons but this example has 6 on each, and
