He received his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant on August, 29th, 1914, was promoted to full Lieutenant on June 1st, 1916. Became a Captain on July 12th, 1917 and finally a Major after the Great War in 1920. He served with the 4th Dorsetshire Regiment, the 2 4th Dorsets, as an officer of the Machine Gun
