This is a terrific old turned wood box in near perfect condition

I have not tried to clean or sharpen the blade

yielding a sort of moire pattern when viewed head on

let alone carved

Oil on canvas, it looks to me as if it was cut out from a larger painting, but it has definitely lived in this 19th c silhouette type frame for quite a long time.
