I continue to be happily surprised by how productive is the Surrealist method of automatism

It offers spirits below a way up into a middle area where they may stay forever

where the sun slithered apart and road the ridges of the little valleys between the waves

including performing night banishing rituals

bathe in the pink light of dawn

Sun Abstract Oil Painting Original painting:Original oil painting on canvas 18 x 24" I continue to be happilyEver since I was a child and saw films of the Sun's roiling, seething surface and how it throws out vast ribbons of itself, which rise and sink back, I have been fascinated how something that seems to us like a flat disk can be in actuality so textural and almost torn apart by movement. I tend to think of the Sun as rather bland and just there, but it is a truly tumultuous heavenly body. This different take on the Sun is what I wanted to capture here.
