My guess is that it was used to print directly on the wall in a home though perhaps to make wall paper--whatever the case it would have required some strength and determination to use

but also the secular aspects of tea and Japanese life

Satisfying Little Thin Walled Tiered Ball in Cage Whimsy marketing I am forever looking at(Sorry, I forgot to shoot individually; it is the unpainted small one in group shots!) Not an especially old one, but I really love the tiered geometry of this little whimsy, looking kind of like a chair with a roof. Good from every angle and really nice as part of a grouping with a few other linear sorts of things. Approx 4 1 2" t x 1 1 4" wide x 1" deep. Good vintage condition.
