I believe the big bows and sailor's collar worn by some of the girls likely dates this to the 1920s or so

from the wonderfully messy whiskers to blood red tongue hanging out between painted teeth

I just love the combo of bright orange body with this terrific landscape of blue trees against yellow sky and green and pink rolling hills

but they are pretty subtle

whether that is the case with this one I am not sure

Clearly the Mickey Doyle who drew it was quite proud of it, and I think must have referred to it often, as he stapled it to a piece of hardboard (and it was wrapped in plastic, too, I think perhaps to protect it from process oriented staining!) I'm always looking
