The American Field Service (1914 1917) was a volunteer ambulance corps comprised mostly of college men from the US. The American Field Service (AFS) of nearly 2,500 operated ambulances in direct support of French combat divisions, transporting the wounded from the front lines to field hospitals. They were the first American citizens to serve in the First World War. This is an extremely scarce example of the American
